Some Important Facts
Acupuncture is natural, effective and most importantly a SAFE approach for pediatric and adolescents care.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbs have no harmful side effects.
Acupuncture focuses on treating symptoms with emphasis on the root cause of the illness or condition and preventing illness in the future by stimulating healing and restoring the body’s own resilience.
Children enjoy the same self-healing benefits as adults and they also experience relaxation and a sense of well-being after treatment.
Common questions regarding Acupuncture AND Chinese Herbs
Does acupuncture hurt?
Acupuncture for kids is virtually painless. We use needles so fine they are about the size of a strand of hair. For babies and small children a quick needling technique is used, where the needle is inserted and immediately taken out so they do not have to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time.
What happens if my child is not willing to be needled?
At Little Pine Acupuncture we refer to needles as “flags” in order to remove the negative association kids have of needles when they go to see their pediatrician. We make sure to communicate with our little patients about their treatment and what is going to happen. If they are not feeling ready to use “flags” we have plenty of other modalities to use that are efficient yet not invasive such as Japanese Shoni Shin tools, Acupressure, Cupping, Tui Na (type of massage), Tuning fork and electro stimulation of the acupuncture points.
How can I communicate this to our paediatrician/specialist?
We love working with MD’s and often communicate on different subjects like immunization schedule, diet changes, blood work, current pharmaceuticals and prescription of Chinese herbs.
We will work with your doctor on a course of treatment that will benefit your child the best way possible.
What to expect when I come with my child for a visit?
First appointments are usually longer (about 90 min), we will go over the initial intake form (connection here to PDF form) and we will talk in length about the child birth history, diet, immunization, medication, behavior, sleep and more.
We will come up with a treatment plan together with parents. There are a lot of treatment modalities that can be used with acupuncture as well as other non invasive techniques such as Chinese herbs, vitamins, supplements and nutritional advice.
Follow up treatments are usually quicker (about 45 min), we will continue our treatment plan and modify it as needed with full communication with parents.
